We use the Avid Microchip which is the same chip used by the MSPCA.
The chip is a device that is about the size of a grain of rice.
(see picture at left). This chip is placed under the
skin, as a permanent ID for your pet. You fill out a form, so
that when that chip is read with a scanner, the shelter can get your
contact information from Avid, and you and your pet will be re-united. .
(No more lost ID tags or lost collars). The majority of the
shelters in Massachusetts, especially in our local area have
scanners that will read the Avid chip. This is a great way to
track your dog or cat if they get lost, and get picked up by a local dog
officer, a shelter, or are brought into a veterinarian's office.
The scanner is used to read your pet's ID number; we scan all strays
with this scanner. Think about Chipping your pet at the same
time you spay or neuter your animal.
